From Tiktok to Team Philippines: All-queer dance crew Femme MNL set to represent the country on the world stage

"Dapat may bakla."

The now-viral remark from veteran actress Eugene Domingo wasn't just a funny one-liner—it became an unexpected celebration of visibility, talent, and the undeniable impact of LGBTQIA+ Filipinos in entertainment.

Few groups embody that spirit today more than Femme MNL.

What started as a group of queer friends posting dance videos on TikTok has evolved into one of the country's most recognizable dance collectives. This year, the Manila-based all-queer crew is set to represent the Philippines at Hip Hop International (HHI), one of the world's most prestigious dance competitions, bringing Filipino talent—and queer excellence—to a global audience.

For many Filipinos, Femme MNL doesn't feel like a distant celebrity act. They feel familiar.

They're the barkada who turned dance trends into performances. The queer kids who unapologetically took up space online. The creators who transformed TikTok videos, rehearsals, inside jokes, and everyday struggles into a community that hundreds of thousands now follow.

In an era where authenticity matters more than perfection, that's exactly why people connect with them.

Unlike traditional entertainment success stories, Femme MNL wasn't built inside a television network or launched by a major label. They grew through social media, fueled by consistency, creativity, and a community that saw themselves reflected in every performance.

What began as content became culture.

Over the years, the group has amassed millions of views across platforms, performed alongside some of the biggest names in Philippine entertainment, collaborated with major brands, appeared at Pride celebrations, and earned recognition for their unique blend of hip-hop, performance, fashion, and queer storytelling.

Now, they're preparing for their biggest stage yet.

Their qualification for Hip Hop International marks a significant milestone not only for the crew but also for LGBTQIA+ representation in Philippine dance. At a time when conversations around inclusion continue to grow, Femme MNL's journey demonstrates how queer creatives are no longer simply participating in culture—they are actively shaping it.

For many supporters, the moment feels bigger than a competition.

It's about seeing an openly queer Filipino team wear the country's colors and compete on one of the world's biggest stages. It's about proving that talent, authenticity, and representation can exist in the same space. And it's about showing young LGBTQIA+ Filipinos that they don't need to change who they are to achieve something extraordinary.

This Pride Month, as conversations around visibility and representation take center stage, Femme MNL offers a different kind of story: one that starts with TikTok videos, friendship, and self-expression, and leads all the way to Team Philippines.

From the For You Page to the world stage, Femme MNL is bringing a generation's story with them—and they're doing it exactly as themselves.
